Big day for Cougar batsmen

IT was a good day for Clyde senior teams’ batsmen on Saturday, giving their teams good chances of winning their games.

A GRADE

Playing at Nar Nar Goon, the Cougars won the toss and batted first.
Callum O’Hare and Brian Zerbst got Clyde off to the start it needed, combining for a 50-run partnership before Zerbst was dismissed for 19.
Clyde then lost another wicket before Steve Madin joined O’Hare at the crease and they batted patiently through to tea at 2/108 with O’Hare 45 and Madin 32.
O’Hare was dismissed at 49 for his highest A-grade score with the partnership worth 54.
Shane Jack joined Madin and together they put on another partnership of 50-plus before Madin was dismissed for an excellent 74.
Jack was dismissed for 23 and captain-coach Noel O’Brien chipped in with 27 valuable runs late in the game.
Brendan Adcock added a handy 17 not out in the last few over as Clyde compiled a solid 9/259.

B GRADE

Playing at Clyde against Beaconsfield the Cougars were sent in to bat.
The experienced batsmen struggled, apart from Darren Tanner who played with an injury, but knocked up 16 runs from four fours.
Brodie Yapp played a patient innings, making 26 and was joined by Glen Tuckwell who played some elegant cut strokes.
Tuckwell, 33, was joined by Ben Lackmann, 35, and together they frustrated the Tiger bowling with a 43-run ninth-wicket partnership that added some respectability to the Cougar total of 149.
Clyde then bowled eight overs and Daven Johnston got a vital breakthrough to have Beaconsfield 1/9 at stumps.

D GRADE

Clyde batted first at Hillcrest against Cranbourne Meadows and opener Chris Hymas and Matt Sinnema got Clyde off to a good start with a partnership of 70 runs.
Hymas continued his great season with 42, while Sinnema was patient as always with 12 runs.
Luke Moxey, 30, and Leah Reaby, 28, put on a 50-run stand as Clyde looked to build a big total.
Dean Jackson then smashed the attack around making a late 38 not out as wickets fell around him, including a 31-run last-wicket partnership.
Clyde finished with 191 and with eight overs to face The Rebels moved to 0/21.

F GRADE

Playing alongside A grade at Nar Nar Goon, Clyde bowled and dismissed the opposition for 137 in 21 overs.
Captain Ken Marshall took 2/11, Marcus Bird 2/26 and Gavin McGuiness finished with 2/29.
Duane DeRazario smashed a quick 50 retired, including three sixes and six fours and Marshall made 37 in an opening stand of 102.
Uncle-and-nephew combination of Gavin and Mick McGuiness made 11 not out and 10 respectively and took the total to 5/155 in the 25 over before stumps were pulled.

UNDER 16

Defending 109 against Lang Lang at the Cougar Den, Clyde struggled as the Swamp Tigers built the big total of 5/182.
Patrick Harmes took 2/34, Matt Venning bowled well for 1/18, Shane Hook 1/20 and Nick Miles 1/31.

UNDER 14

Defending 117 against Pakenham Upper-Toomuc Brown in a close fought match, the Cougars just got across the line, dismissing the Yabbies for 90.
Ben Riley was the pick of the bowlers with 3/8, with assistance from Alex Francis 1/4, Dylan Hadfield 1/6 and Riley Manks 1/13 as well as four run-outs.
An extra three overs were bowled and Luke Hurd took 2/6 from his only over.

UNDER 12

Clyde was defending 55 runs against Pakenham in a rain-reduced match.
Pakenham amassed the huge total of 3/150 as the Clyde toiled hard.
Wicket takers were Josh Lutz 1/4, Ash Jones 1/11 and Cameron Brown 1/14.

UNDER 12 COUGARS

On the second day against Devon Meadows Red, the Cougars tried hard all night, but the opposition batted very well to make 4/145 at the end of the game.
Best of the bowlers were James Harmes 2/3, Josh Nessan 1/9 and Kiefa Peries 1/19.
