A POTENTIALLY perfect season for Narre Warren was ruined when Doveton knocked the Magpies out of the flag race with a 42point preliminaryfinal win on Sunday.
The senior and reserve Narre Warren sides will compete on the one day that matters next Saturday, but the early pennant will go to either the Doves or the allconquering Beaconsfield Eagles after the weekend result.
Sunday’s effort by both sides was good, however the Doves simply had more scoring options and that proved the difference.
Doveton’s Ryan Pearson underlined his class with five goals, while Cameron Bell booted three in support. Teammate Stephen Henwood performed well under finals’ pressure, as did Michael Laszczyk.
The Magpies started slowly and never recovered the lead after quarter time. Gavin Blizzard, Luke Kenny and Daniel Vandenbroek were their best performers.
Beaconsfield will enter the grand final as redhot favourites, having dropped only the last game of the season, but the Doves are a proven finals outfit and will shoot for their third consecutive under18 premiership this Saturday.
