MOVES to improve rail services in the area have been welcomed by Cardinia Shire and City of Casey officials.
The State Government is looking at a proposal to establish a third rail line between Dandenong and Caulfield, a concept strongly supported by Cardinia chief executive officer Don Welsh. Mr Welsh said he attended a briefing session on Monday in which senior officials from a number of local municipalities met with officials from the Department of Infrastructure to discuss the proposal.
Mr Welsh said improved rail services were seen as critical in terms of getting the many commuters from the Pakenham district into the city for work.
He said the only concern was that the project was unlikely to become reality at least until after 2008, by which time the local population would have increased by about 7000 residents.
