Dadtobe killed in horror smash

By Paul Dunlop
A LONGWARRY man killed in a car crash at Pakenham last week was about to become a father for the third time.
Graeme Trewin died when his car hit a power pole on Army Road about 8.45pm on Thursday.
The 36yearold, known fondly as ‘Fred’, or ‘Chuckles’ by workmates, was married to Pam and had two children, Tara and Lachlan.
Mrs Trewin was due to give birth to the couple’s third child this week. Her family have flown down from Queensland to be by her side.
Family and friends are mourning a man regarded as a generous, hardworking husband and father whose loss will be sorely felt in the community.
Notices have been placed in this week’s Gazette in memory of a ‘wonderful son, husband, father and brother’.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the death and will prepare a report for the coroner.
Police said it was believed Mr Trewin was travelling south when he lost control of his vehicle and slid sideways into the power pole.
Mr Trewin was the sole occupant of the vehicle and there were no witnesses to the incident, police said.
Pakenham Road Rescue Unit spokesman Stephen Monro said the crash happened about four kilometres north of the Princes Highway, not far from the intersection with Lilliput Lane.
A large cross was erected at the crash site over the weekend. Mr Trewin’s father, Len, said family and workmates had been to the site to pay tribute to his son.
“He very much loved his kids, his family took precedence over everything else,” Len said.
A truck driver who grew up in Bunyip, Mr Trewin was the youngest of three boys to Len and Joyce.
A funeral service will be held at the Bunyip Public Hall at 11.30am today (Wednesday, 21 September).
Pakenham Road Rescue Unit was also called to a twocar collision last week at the corner of Ballarto Road and Pound Road in Cardinia.
The driver of a Ford utility was trapped and was taken to hospital, after a heavy side impact collision.
The crash also involved a Nissan Patrol 4WD.
