Gas set to be election issue

GETTING gas to Kooweerup is likely to become an issue at the next State Government election.
Residents of the town are hurting after Kooweerup was overlooked in the latest roll out of natural gas connections to rural areas.
Lang Lang got the nod, but Kooweerup, Gembrook, Emerald and Upper Beaconsfield all missed out.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Westernport Ward councillor Doug Hamilton said at council’s meeting on Monday that Kooweerup residents were “very disappointed”.
Asking what could be done to help, Cr Hamilton was told by council chief executive officer Don Welsh that council could make the issue a priority in its lobby efforts during the build up to the state election.
Mr Welsh said council could also include gas connection as a priority project in Kooweerup’s township strategy.
