JPs to report for duty in Emerald

JUSTICES of the Peace will be on duty at Emerald Police Station.
Local JPs will be available to act as witnesses to official documents and for other duties between 10 am to midday and 2 pm to at least 4 pm every Tuesday.
Sergeant Chris Vincent said Emerald JPs Nadia Wildes and Peter Nodin first raised the idea several years ago.
“This concept started the JPs coming in to Dandenong Police Station and now a number of metropolitan stations use them,” he said.
“However, Emerald never got off the ground because of security and manpower issues.”
As a result of recent renovations and availability of clerical staff, Emerald police station would now be permanently open every Tuesday, Sgt Vincent said.
“The hours are flexible at this stage depending on demand but I am confident I can guarantee someone will be there every Tuesday,” he said.
“We are open most days now during daylight hours but at nights my members are out and about and the station is closed.
“With the increase in staff later this year, you will see the station open more.”
