Lions set for the chase

PAKENHAM’S A-grade side is set for a 266 run chase on the small Devon Meadows ground after a good bowling performance on Saturday.
Devon Meadows won the toss and elected to bat.
Dale Haggar and Ash Bailey opened the bowling for the Lions with the latter getting the first wicket (1/4) in the fourth over.
Marc Merrigan got the breakthrough for the second wicket (2/33), Ash Bailey got the third wicket having Devon Meadows 3/49 off 29 overs.
Jason Williams chipped in for the fourth wicket 4/104, before Devon Meadows put on a handy partnership of 109 runs and batted out its 80 overs.
Best of the bowlers were Jason Williams 3/56 off 14, Ash Bailey 2/28 off 14, Andrew Cooper 2/51 off 15.

B GRADE

Pakenham hoping to redeem itself from the previous week hosted an experienced Tooradin side.
The Lions were asked to bowl and struck early. T. Fernando had Tooradin 1/7. J. Ryan came on and two wickets fell to have Tooradin 3/51.
Two more wickets fell before tea to have Pakenham heading to the break with the opposition being 5/79.
Good bowling after tea saw Tooradin dismissed for 150 after 60 overs with E. Duiker claiming the last four batsmen.
Best of the bowlers were E. Duiker 15/5 overs 4/50, J. Ryan 3/25, M. Monckton 1/18.
Pakenham faced a dangerous seven overs before stumps and is 0/7, with D. Rooks five not out and J. Farrell two not out.

D GRADE

Pakenham won the toss and elected to bowl with Graham McCraw and Daryl Williams who got the first wicket in the third over.
The second wicket came in at the 18th over (2/34).
Pakenham made hard work for itself by dropping seven catches and bowled Catani out for 153.
Best of the bowlers were Gary Sewell 4/43 off 20, Denis Porter 3/24 off 13 and David Murray 1/24 off seven.
Pakenham batted for three overs and is 0/1.

E GRADE

Pakenham lost the toss and was asked to bowl.
Chris Chilcott and Adrian Bailey opened, Chris taking a wicket in his third over.
Bailey bowled well without luck to finish with 0/20 off eight overs.
Tim Holt came on and in tandem with Mick Chilcott, bowled well to get 1/10 off 11 overs.
Craig Hart joined Chilcott Senior and bowled well, 1/5 off six overs with Mick Chilcott rolling on from last game taking 6/15 from 12 overs to have Cardinia all out for 78 runs.
With 18 overs to bat Cardinia bowled well to have Pakenham 4/36 at stumps.
Solid batting by Pakenham is needed this week to bring home the points.

F GRADE

With two rounds to go before the break Pakenham hosted Emerald hoping to get back on the winners’ list.
Losing the toss and being asked to bowl Pakenham soon had Emerald on the back foot, 4/4 after five overs.
A partnership was formed with the next wicket to fall on 5/93 in the 26th over.
Pakenham again regained the upper hand having Emerald 8/112 at the close of innings.
Best of the bowlers was B. Hanks 4/3, J. Hayhow 2/13, J. McGivern 1/16.
Pakenham, facing an experienced attack, started slow and steady and lost two early wickets to be 2/23 after 12 overs.
Perth recruit Garry Powell and Matt Ursell steadied the ship to form a partnership of 74 with Ursell departing for 19 and Powell retiring on 50,
Daniel Powell (26 not out) and Pakenham junior Jessie Hayhow (6 not out) saw Pakenham across the line to be 7/126.

UNDER 16

Pakenham played Emerald Black at Emerald in a one-day game.
Pakenham won the toss and batted. Chilcott and Holt got off to a good start before Holt was caught on the boundary for 13 and Chilcott was then run out for two.
Jack Ryan came in and made 25 not out and Adam Roseby made 16, all fours and Pakenham scored 9/104 off 22 overs.
Pakenham bowled well with Holt 2/8, Ryan 0/8 and Hayhow chipped in with 1/14.
Pakenham won an exciting game.

UNDER 14

Chasing 63 Pakenham started at 0/17, after losing three quick wickets.
D. Doyle and Tom Dayl had a 31-run partnership that got Pakenham over the line.
Lochlan Cotton, 6, and Broderick Fraser, 6, batted well.
Pakenham finished at 7/99 – a good first win.
