Oh, baby, what a boom!

By Jim Mynard
MORE than 3400 babies were born in Casey last year.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the baby boom was part of phenomenal growth in the city.
He said the current population of 222,700 was expected to reach 320,000 in 15 years.
“Casey has one of the highest child population of any municipality in Australia,” he said.
“Between 8000 and 10,000 new residents will move into Casey within the next year.
“The wider Cranbourne area, will be the main area of population growth in the near future, with more than 70,000 new residents to move in over the next 15 years.
“This growth will present many new challenges and opportunities and the council is planning ahead to ensure it continues to deliver new facilities and services for all residents.
“This year will see the implementation of a number of key projects across the municipality, including the opening of Casey Fields, progress on the Casey Activity Centre, development of the Performing Arts Rehearsal Centre and Casey Multicultural Community Centre at Cranbourne.
