OLDER model Holden Commodores are being targeted by thieves in a move police believe is a sign of the times.
With advanced security making newer cars much tougher nuts to crack, cars from the midtolate 1980s are proving to be favourites with car thieves.
Pakenham Police Senior Sergeant Trevor Teer said there had been several thefts of and from cars such as VK and VL model Commodores.
Similarlyaged Fords were also popular with thieves, he said.
“A lot of bits and pieces are being taken from these cars.
“There is quite a trade in stolen parts which are expensive to buy and are used to hot up other cars,” Sen Sgt Teer said.
A spate of thefts in November alerted police to the trend.
Police are hoping to speak to a man who reported a recent attempted theft in Holm Park Road, Beaconsfield.
