Top teeoff for tournament

IT was four days of top golf when Pakenham Golf Club held its annual tournament from last Thursday to Sunday.
Ladies day started on Thursday culminating in the mixed day on Sunday.
Sponsors were: Pakenham Tyrepower and Falken Tyres, CadburySchweppes, JPS Recruitment, Racer’s Entertainment Complex, Retravision Pakenham, Cignall Berwick, K & S Environmental Solutions, Titleist and Adam Street Lodges, Tocumwal.

LADIES DAY RESULTS

The 27hole open scratch event was won by June Woznica from Moe with 131 gross and the winner of the Bgrade 27hole scratch event was Marg Andrews from Pakenham with 147 gross.
Jan Gibb took out the 18hole Cgrade scratch with a score of 108 Gross.
The 27hole handicap events went to Maria Warburton 111 nett and Viki Maxwell 102 nett.
The 18hole Agrade handicap winner was Marg Blake with 73 nett and Leanne Andrews was the Bgrade winner also with 73 nett.
The 18hole Cgrade handicap winner was Sue King with 77 nett and the visitors trophy was won by Pam Morris from Garfield.
Downtheline winners were Faye Barnes 73, Gwen Vittiritti (Garfield), Marjorie Dean 76, L Birch, 76, Phyl Warne 76 (Garfield), Vikki Templeton 76 (Garfield), Lyn Murray 77 and Bernace Miller 77 (Drouin).
Nearest the pin saw Marg Blake the winner on the second and fifth holes and Sue King on the 14th.

LADIES FOURBALLBESTBALL

This saw a close finish with Marg Blake and Gwen Vitiritti (Garfield) the winners on a countback from Sue King and Hilary Hockley (Garfield) both pair coming in with 46 points.
The visitors’ trophy was won by Nancy Sewell and Esther Keysers from Yallourn with 42 points.
The best nine out went to Shirley Roberts and Leanne Barker with 24 points on a countback and the best nine in went to Loretta Stewart and Joan Young with 23 points.
Downtheline winners were Toni Owen/Marjorie Dean 46, Lyn Murray/Liz Garvey 43, June McCardel/Maria Warburton 43, Faye Barnes/Marg Turner 42, Dot Kidd/D Larson (Trafalgar) 41 and Marg Jackson/Val Carroll 41.
Muriel Mills was the winner of the nearest the pin on the second hole, Gwen Vitiritti (Garfield) won on the eighth hole and Ann Poelsma (Yallourn) took out the 14th.
Nearest the pin second shots on the fifth and 16th holes were won by Marg Blake and Faye Barnes.

MEN’S FOURBALLBESTBALL

Angie Peluso and Bob Dowse came in with a great score of 48 points to win on a countback from Nik Hock and Ian Neason.
The Visitors’ trophy was won by G. Needham and P. Malone from Garfield with 44 points.
Neil McLatchie and Steve Kerley were the winners of the Best Nine Out with 24 points and the best nine in went to Mark Bell and Michael Hildebrand on a countback with 24 points.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Cliff Pain, the fifth hole to Steve Levett, the eighth to Ian Neason, the 14th to Mick Boyd and the 16th to Rod Cameron.

MEN’S DAY

The Agrade scratch winner was Clint Walker with 73, Michael Hildebrand was the Bgrade scratch winner with 81 and Cgrade went to Paul Walter with 90.
The handicap winners were Scott Hooper with 66 nett (Agrade), Don Towan also with 66 nett (Bgrade) and Simon Fay 65 (Cgrade).
Nearest the pins were won by Rod Bennett (second hole), Don Towan (fifth hole), Scott Phillips (eighth), Angie Peluso (14th) and Jeff Paterson (16th).
Downtheline balls were won by David Horne 67, Cliff Pain 67, Bryan Delaney 68, Anthony Colvin 68, Andrew Trivett 68, Phil Barling 69, Steve Barrett 69, Ross MacLean 70, D. Reynolds 70, Shane Wilkinson 70, Dan Cameron 70, Bob Dowse 70, Dan McMinimee 71 and Geoff Anderson 71.
The longest drive for Agrade was won by Shannon Sandiford, Bgrade went to Steve Barrett and Ron Miller was the winner of Cgrade.

MIXED DAY

This was a mixed Canadian foursome event.
Jason McQualter and Marg Blake came in with 82 gross to win the scratch event with Les and Kay Jones had a 91 gross to win the Bgrade scratch event.
Rob and Pam Morris from Garfield took out the Agrade handicap with 70 3/4 nett and Stojko Kresojevic and Liz Garvey were the Bgrade handicap winners.
Runnersup were Bevan and Lyn Pinner from Garfield with 72 1/2 (Agrade) and Noel Bonne and June McCardel 77 5/8 (Bgrade).
Gwen and George Vitiritti from Garfield won the visitors’ trophy with 73 3/4 nett.
Ladies nearest the pin on the second hole went to Lyn Pinner from Garfield and the eighth to Julie Walker.
Men’s nearest the pins went to L. Nicholson (14th hole) and Angie Peluso (16th).
Down the lines were won by Val and Ron Carroll, Rob Sandiford and Viki Maxwell, Dieter Ruprecht and Sue Simpson, Nick and Libby DeHey, Gavan and Maria Warburton, Glenda and Gordon Warren (Drouin), J. and D. Kidd, Tony and Leanne Andrews, Annette and Alan Phillips (Long Island).
Raffle winners were Marcus Cameron who won a set of Falken Tyres courtesy of Pakenham Tyrepower and Falken Tyres.
Second prize of a Nokia 6103 mobile phone courtesy of Retravision Pakenham went to Ron Carroll.
Third prize of two nights accommodation at Adams St Lodges Tocumwal went to Jenny McDornan and the $120 gift voucher from the golf shop was won by Rory Sutton.

COMING EVENTS

The twilight competition has started. Hitoff times are from 3pm on Wednesdays and meals are available after the nine holes.
The competition is open to all – members and nonmembers, handicap and nonhandicap players.
The bar will be open Friday afternoons on a trial basis, so come along have a round of golf and a pleasant Friday afternoon.
Next Friday evening Ben Whiteley will provide entertainment from 9pm in the clubhouse. Entry is free.

DEMONSTRATION DAY

This will be held on 18 November. MacGregor clubs will show drivers, irons, rescue clubs, wedges etc.
This will be held from 7am to noon. For further information contact Jason or Shannon in the golf shop.

MONDAY RESULTS

Fiftyfive players competed in a Stableford competition and Leo Cester came in the winner on a countback from Peter Skinner.
Down the lines went to Al Campbell 40, Bert Burniston 39, Brian Doherty 39, John Hutcheon 38, Stuart Hare 38, Fred Uini 38, Marc Cleland 37, Trevor Smith 37, Bob Morrison 37 and Chris Peeters 37.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Bob Morrison and the 14th was won by Ron Thouliss (Garfield)

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The morning competition was won by Ben Milnes with 42 Stableford points from Kevin Salau 41 and Mick Boyd 40.
Down the lines were won by Andrew Wraight 39, David Robinson 39, Scott Milnes 38, Brian Doherty 37, Nik Hick 37, Robert Edwards 37 and John Moore 37.
Scott Hooper was the winner of the nearest the pin on the second hole and Tom McDermott took out the eighth hole. Bert Burniston was the winner on the 14th hole.

TWILIGHT RESULTS

This attracted a large field and Kevin Salau had 24 points to come in the winner from Andrew Wraight with 22.
Ben Milnes 21, Rob Morley 20, Michael Trickey 20, Viki Maxwell 20, John Kingman 20, David Robinson 20, Nik Hock 20. Roger Hamill 19, Bob Dowse 19 (countback) were the downtheline winners.
Nearest the pin, second shot on the 11th went to Mick Boyd and Scott Phillips took out the 16th hole.
Social winner was A. Cooper and the winner of the meat tray was Denis Quinn.
