PAKENHAM’S new adultsonly shop has opened its doors to plenty of interest, operators have said.
The controversial shop, Sensations for Adults, began trading on Saturday in Racecourse Road.
A first for the town, it sparked plenty of debate — among Cardinia Shire councillors and in the community — when the business was approved earlier this year.
Councillors were divided in their opinion of the merits of the proposal with Kate Lempriere and Graeme Legge both arguing strongly against the decision.
“I think it’s sleazy, awful and I don’t know that Pakenham needs it yet,” Cr Lempriere said.
The shop was approved with restricted opening hours and conditions on advertising. It offers a range of products of a sexual nature, including novelty toys, lingerie, DVDs and magazines.
Operator Neil (who asked that his surname be withheld) said he encouraged people unsure about the business to come and see it for themselves.
“So far the feedback we have had has been very positive,” he said.
