Bomber destroys bats

A SENSATIONAL bowling spell by Emerald’s Rod Smith with 4/1 off 3.1 overs was the highlight of the game against Nar Nar Goon on Saturday.

A GRADE

With a couple of wins behind them the Bombers were confident of their chances against Nar Nar Goon and got off to a great start with Clinton Marsh bowling a great opening spell, taking three wickets and was well supported by Liam Megarrell and Tony Flint.
Nar Nar Goon was 4/41 after 21 overs after Flint got his first wicket.
Mark Wheatley and Quentin Lucas bowled well in the middle of the innings and each picked up one wicket each, but after Smith’s sensational spell Nar Nar Goon was all out for 172 in the 60th over.
Apart from Smith, the best bowler for the Bombers was Marsh with 3/42.
With 17 overs to bat, the Bombers got off to a bad start with the loss of three quick wickets for only 14 runs.
Mark Alenson (19) and John Noonan (29) saw the Bombers to 3/61 at stumps.

B GRADE

Emerald, visiting Kilcunda-Bass, lost the toss and bowled, getting off to a good start with Geoff Worrell and Cam Williams restricting the opposition to 3/32 after 20 overs.
Steve Upton and Jarred Gillespie came on and continued to apply the pressure and the score was 4/91 after 50 overs.
Although the Bombers continued to bowl well, runs came a little easier in the last 20 overs and the score end 7/200 after 70 overs.
The best bowler for the Bombers was Cam Williams, who bowled 28 overs for the excellent figures of 6/62.

D GRADE

Emerald played Clyde away and looked for another win to cement a place in the top four.
Winning the toss and bowling, the Bombers got off to a good start with Andrew Rolfs and Corey Sweeney attacking well at the start.
The score was 1/25 when Rolfs rolled his ankle and then Kieron Thoms came on and got immediate success.
Julian Powell continued his great form for the Bombers as he ripped through the batting to pick up his second consecutive six-wicket haul.
Neil O’Connell and Thoms helped him with some good catches and good bowling from Mark Hamilton who finished with 2/16 as the score finished with Clyde all out for 128 off 38 overs. Powell finished with 6/36 off 14 overs.
The Bombers had 30 overs to bat and got off to a horrible start with the score falling to 6/26 after 14 overs.
Lucas McGann and Greg Hamilton saw the Bombers to stumps at 6/61.

E GRADE

The Bombers played Beaconsfield at home, won the toss and bowled.
Emerald got off to a great start with Byron Sidwell and Eric Glazner getting the score to 3/17.
Brett Hamilton and Jesse Mather came on and picked up wickets as the score fell to 7/90.
A solid partnership was formed before Kade Ely came on and got the last three wickets of the innings to bowl Beaconsfield out for 186.
Ely took 3/15, Hamilton 2/19 and Sidwell 2/23.

F GRADE

Emerald played Nyora away, lost the toss and batted.
The Bombers played well to post the score of 183 off 35 overs.
Gary Santini (18) and Ben Wright (15) got Emerald off to a good start and then Kevin Stapleton (33), Jeff Whyte (38) and Rowan Pascoe (32) not out all batted well to help Emerald post the good score.
In reply, the Bombers always had the game in the bag and bowled Nyora out for 69.
Santini, Danny Mazlo, Jim Burke andTom Alford all got two wickets each and Ben Wright one.

UNDER 16 RED

The Reds played Nar Nar Goon and after a sluggish start managed to restrict the Goon to 9/175.
The bowlers all performed well and the best figures were Byron Sidwell’s 3/41 off 11 overs, while Tim Robinson took 3/26 off eight and Brock Barlow 2/30 off eight.

UNDER 16 BLACK

Playing Beacy Tigers, Emerald won the toss and bowled well through the innings to restrict the Tigers to 148 after its 40 overs.
Jayden Thompson was the best bowler for the Blacks with 3/18 off six overs and Rob Wynne and Ash Lucas each grabbed one wicket.

UNDER 14 BLACK

Emerald played at home against the Beacy Eagles.
Bowling first, the Bombers fought throughout to hold the Eagles to 7/114 after 40 overs.
Best of the bowlers was Andrew Alenson, who bowled six overs for 3/23.
Chris Wynne, Jack Jeffree and Callum Thoms bowled well to get one wicket each.
