Bulls three charge finals

WITH only two games left in the 2005 season, two Baw Baw teams were certain to play in the finals, while the senior men’s finalists will only be determined after the final round.

MEN’S STATE LEAGUE 4

In a tightly contested game at the State Hockey Centre between homeground colleagues, Casey and Baw Baw played hard, fast hockey. The Bulls’ only goal was a result of accurate and skilled passing from Mark Robjant and Doug Earwicker on the left to Ian Stitt, in the centre of the D, who knocked the ball in to level scores, midway through the second half. A shot on Casey’s goal, five minutes later, was lucky to penetrate the Bulls’ formidable defence, giving Casey the advantage at full time.
The loss made harder the team’s finals push, however the Bulls held fourth place. The four teams to contest the finals will not be clear until after the last game. This week, the Bulls’ top two senior men’s teams travel to Bendigo to play CV Blazers.
Scores: Casey 2 d Baw Baw 1.

MEN’S PENNANT E

The Bulls’ seconds played a determined game to take the honours from TEM in round 16. After being 12 down at halftime, the Bulls returned from the break a revitalised team, keeping TEM scoreless for the second half and adding two goals.
Scores: Baw Baw 3 d TEM 2.

MEN’S METRO 4 SOUTH

The fifthplaced Bulls met sixthplaced TEM in round 16. Sue Goetz took up the challenge of substituting in a team short of players. Playing on the wing, she managed to score the Bulls’ only goal. Tim Owen passed off from the right to Goetz in the centre and, when the goalie came out, she managed to push the ball into the right hand corner.
Scores: Baw Baw 1 drew with TEM 1.

UNDER 17 PENNANT A

The Bulls met thirdplaced Waverley in a battle to hold their place in the final four. The game stayed delicately poised while both teams played great hockey. Scores remained 00 until the final five minutes when Waverley finally found a hole in the Bulls’ solid defence. Following that, a number of the Bulls players had runs down the field in an exciting finish. James Dobson, Dave Hill, Joe Sutton and Dan Mackinnon all attacked their goal, missing shots by the closest of margins. The clearly unlucky Bulls’ quest for a finals berth now rests on the results of other teams.
Scores: Waverley 1 d Baw Baw 0.

GIRLS UNDER 17 SOUTH

Baw Baw had another successful night against Waverley in round 16, playing great hockey, and clearly led the competition.
Scores: Baw Baw 10 d Waverley 0.

UNDER 15 PENNANT A

Baw Baw met secondplaced Geelong, displayed skills against formidable apposition and can be proud of the achievement in keeping this team to such a low score.
Scores: Geelong 2 d Baw Baw 1.

UNDER 13 PENNANT SOUTH

Baw Baw was sitting second and certain to play in the finals. They clearly displayed their finely developing skills with a good win against Waverley.
Scores: Baw Baw 6 d Waverley 4.
