CARDINIA scored a lastover win over Clyde in their Agrade match at Clyde Recreation Reserve.
Cardinia needed 286 for victory at the start of the day’s play, and the pursuit started well, with John Nooy (19) and Mark Cooper adding 65 for the first wicket.
Cooper made yet another half century, out for 58 with score at 3/95 in the 33rd over.
Jamie Glen (24) was just starting to warm up before a Shane Webster thunderbolt rearranged his stumps.
Glen’s dismissal triggered a mini collapse as the Bulls lost 4/27, and the Cougars could smell victory.
Troy DaRose, however, in his return to the AGrade side plundered the bowlers to all corners, scoring 97.
Brad Goodman hit a quickfire 31 at the end of the innings, but it was Adam Hobson (27 not out) and Chris Remy (17 not out) who guided the Bulls to victory.
With nine wickets down and four runs needed, Remy showed his experience and hit 16 runs from the final over of play.
B GRADE
Playing MaryknollNar Nar Goon, Cardinia set the Marygoons 200 for victory.
Superb batting from opposition batsmen saw this game slip past the Bulls as the Marygoons compiled 4/265.
Ryan Kitchin was the best of the bowlers, taking 2/70 from 18 overs.
Matt Adlam toiled hard for 1/46, Brodie Glen showed glimpses of greatness in his 10over spell, which returned 1/51, and Stuart Williams entertained onlookers with the celebrations from his 1/21.
D GRADE
Cardinia set Nyora 172 for victory in the first week and the Maroons were already well on their way, being 2/78 at stumps on the first day.
An unbeaten 110 from Daniel Morrison was what Bulls didn’t need as he led the run chase for Nyora.
Wickets fell intermittently throughout the day’s play, however not quickly enough to keep the Maroons at bay.
Nathaniel Wade bowled superbly in his best effort for the season to take 2/46 from 17 overs.
Cam Haynes bowled well for 2/49 in his second match for the season.
Mitch Abbot unleashed a lightening bolt to uproot Billy Hessels’ middle stump for figures of 1/29, and Matt Waixel and Dylan Mitchell chipped in with a wicket each.
Waixel also combined with Daniel Cairns for a run out, and Evan Webster closed Nyora’s innings with a superb direct hit run out from mid on.
Nyora won by 85 runs.
E GRADE
Defending 224, the Bulls never looked like losing to Pakenham UpperToomuc, bowling them out for 127.
Wickets fell steadily throughout the day and only two PUT batsmen showed any real resilience.
Chris Lemmon bowled well for 1/28 in a typically fiery spell.
Brad Snooks picked up 3/29, father Wayne picked up 3/36 and Matt Masin 2/18.
Rob Baumgartner finished to job with 1/10 from five balls.
Another comfortable win sees Cardinia charging towards the finals, hoping to go one better than last year.
UNDER 17
Chasing Officer’s 155, Cardinia openers Dylan Mitchell and under 15 player Travis Kitchin made halfcenturies.
Mitchell’s was a chancy knock, while Kitchin kept the ball on the carpet to make his maiden 50, batting out of his age group.
Evan Webster batted brilliantly for 36 not out and the Bulls were 4/196 at the conclusion of their 40 overs.
UNDER 15
Cardinia made a mammoth 3/223 declared against an undermanned Lang Lang side in the first week of play, and on the weekend defeated Lang Lang outright.
Lang Lang only had seven players, so only 12 wickets were required to take maximum match points.
Travis Welsh and Devlin TraceyShaw each took two wickets in the Tigers’ first innings, and Dean Gillot took his first wicket, with 1/13 off three overs.
In Lang Lang’s second dig, Bradey Welsh took 2/5 and Pat Nolan, Keith Linford, Glen Easton and Brett Venn each took a wicket.
