Cup Day teeoff a winner

GARFIELD Golf Club backed a winner as members played the inaugural parthree event on Melbourne Cup Day.
The day was so popular it was decided to make it an annual event.
Players grouped early for a ‘siren start’ with men, ladies and nonhandicapped golfers playing together.
The 18 holes were set out as parthree distances ranging from 100 metres to 170 metres for ladies and 230 metres for men.
To save walking up long fairways with golf clubs, longest drives and selected irons were held at five sections.
Sponsored by ReGen Wellness products through club member Howard Fox there were 12 major and 35 minor trophies and products played for.
As the players completed their rounds, cooking stalwart of the club Norma Glew had a tasty chicken salad ready, while the ladies arranged the traditional cup sweeps.
