PRESSURE will be stepped up to have the PakenhamKooweerup Road upgraded to a fourlane divided highway.
Cardinia Shire Council last week signalled its intention to make the road upgrade an issue in the leadup to next year’s state election.
Cr Doug Hamilton asked at council’s meeting for an update of progress on the issue.
Cardinia assets and development services general manager Michael Ellis said informal talks had been held with neighbouring municipalities of South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shires and the City of Casey in a bid to present a united front to the state and federal governments.
Council is also seeking a bypass of Kooweerup. An election is to be held by November, 2006.
