Garfield up against it

GARFIELD played Traralgon at the weekend and managed only one win against talented opponents.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:A GRADE

Garfield played a strong, determined game but was outclassed by the talented and skilled Traralgon team. Susie Papley and Bess Henry combined well to deliver the ball into the goal ring with speed and accuracy while Jade Dawes, Lisa Biffen and Jo Collis defended with great consistency, picking up lose balls, rebounding and creating play down the court.
Scores: Garfield 24 lost to Traralgon 54.
Awards: Garfield Hotel Susie Papley, Shapes Gym Warragul Jo Collis.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:B GRADE

Garfield again competed in a hard match against talented opposition. Emma Marsh and Helen Collis, alternating in wing attack and centre, continued to play a strong and determined game and contributed to each passage of play with skill and speed. Erin Barkley, as wing defence, played a tight defensive game by limiting Traralgon’s attack. She intercepted on many occasions and made herself available in the attacking end at crucial moments.
Scores: Garfield 52 lost to Traralgon 60.
Awards: Garfield Hotel Di Collis, Shapes Gym Warragul Emma Marsh.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

Natalie Van der Pas and Sammy Barr applied a tight defensive game and limited Traralgon’s goalers throughout. Sally Harper, in wing attack, again played a mature game and created many attacking plays. Kareena Miller goaled accurately particularly in the final half to help set up a win. Hannah Burns’ tight defence game limited Traralgon’s normal freedom in centre court.
Scores: Garfield 35 d Traralgon 27.
Awards: O & H Hotel Warragul Becky Hower, Shapes Gym Warragul Natalie Van Der Pas, Blockbuster Video Hannah Burns.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:17 AND UNDER

Garfield put in a determined effort against Traralgon. Jodie Vugs continued to demonstrate determination whatever position she was asked to play in. Beth Bogart worked hard as goal attack, shooting well and defending every ball down the court. Megan Boland starred again as wing defence, putting in a strong and tight game.
Scores: Traralgon 29 d Garfield 13.
Awards: Best Jodie Vugs, Hungry Jack’s Pakenham Megan Boland, Blockbuster Video Beth Bogart.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:15 AND UNDER

Garfield took the opportunity to experiment with positional combinations throughout. Strong defence and goaling came from Bianca Collis and Hayley Wright, who spent time at both ends of the court. Brooke Cousin put in another great game as goaler and was again aptly supported by Jessie Scamporlino.
Scores: Traralgon 33 d Garfield 4.
Awards: Gerard Collins Brooke Cousin, Hungry Jack’s Pakenham Karly Matthews, Blockbuster video Jessie Scamporlino.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:13 AND UNDER

The final score was not a true indication of the game. Garfield combined to play a skilful and talented game with a plan and purpose. Lucy Wheeler demonstrated her talents as an effective goal defence and a leader on the court. She supported the team all the way down the court and set up a strong combination in defence with Zoe Clarkson.
Scores: Traralgon 22 d Garfield 6.
Awards: Best Emma Masal, Hungry Jack’s Pakenham Zoe Clarkson, Blockbuster Ruby Collis.
