PLAYING off the back markers was a good omen for Drouin Golf Club’s Kevin O’Riley on Saturday.
With a fine nett 69, Kevin (22) took out the monthly medal and C grade and was one of the few players to beat their handicap.
Sponsored by Gippsland Bulk Spreaders, there was a good field of 126 players who teed up for the medal.
Better scores in C grade were Paul Buttigieg 70 and Peter Cunningham 70.
With no one jumping out of the box with a low score in B grade, it was Danny Lafrantz (18) sneaking a win with nett 74. Surprisingly this was three clear of the next best a 77 returned by Charlie Hardy and Stan Weller.
Brett Dessent (six) returned to form to take out A grade with 72 from Tom Carroll 73 and Jesse Youngman 73.
Nearest to pins 14th: Bill Mapleson, 17th: Jack Gardiner, 19th: Brad Bennett, 23rd (pro pin): Ryan Hammond. The CCR was 74.

The Agrade winner and winner of the monthly medal was Mary Tymensen with a score of 73 nett.

The Thursday nine hole seniors’ competition cancelled due to the weather.
RUNAWAY BUGGY
Helen Andreason made sure her batterypowered buggy was switched off and secure this week after it took off while she was concentrating on putting on the 15th green last week.
It made an epic journey from the 15th to the 18th green and ended up in the ditch.
Fellow players joked that it must have been in a hurry to finish and get out of the cold.
This week is Stableford, secret partners and next week will be the annual general meeting with a ninehole event to follow.
