Lions on course to save lives

I WISH to commend the Lions plan to establish lowcost driver training for young people.
Enormous support has been evident during the initial stages of Lions club planning and activities in the build up to a major move to create a Driver Education Centre in the southeast.
This is expected to be similar to the highly successful Driver Education Centre of Australia (DECA) at Shepparton.
A meeting of stakeholders in the idea will be held on Wednesday 22 February, possibly at DECA. Coordinator Graham Cockerill said interested individuals would be welcome.
Mr Cockerell said the program, ProjectDriving Force, had gained the interest and support of many organisations, including at least 10 Lions clubs in this region, state and federal politicians, councillors, churches, auto clubs, police, businesses and emergency services. Regional multiuse driver education and motor sports facilities would be established in areas where they were lacking, he said.
“The dream is achievable because of the almost overwhelming support and goodwill generated since the presentation of the project at the Lions V5 district convention last year,” he said.
This is a project that needs total cooperation between Federal, State and local governments.
I hope the signs of bickering between the three that I see will disappear next year under the understanding that the end result will be to save young lives.
Mr Cockerill can be contacted on 5944 4111.
