A MAN was severely burnt when a paddock cleanup went wrong on Sunday.
The 38yearold from Guys Hill was taken to The Alfred hospital with burns to 30 per cent of his body. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
Pakenham police Senior Sergeant Steve Matthews said the man had used diesel fuel to light a small bonfire in a paddock on his property after a clean up.
The fuel ignited and spread to the man’s clothing, causing severe burns. The incident took place about 3pm.
Sen Sgt Matthews said the man was airlifted to hospital.
He said the incident served as a reminder of the dangers of burning off and urged residents to take every caution when cleaning up around the farm or home at this time of year.
