IN Saturday’s round of division-one pennant Traralgon played Drouin at home in what proved to be an excellent game with a nail-biting finish.
Traralgon led all day but, playing the last end, Drouin was only one shot down.
With Traralgon one down its second, Bill Munday, played two great bowls for two shots that Drouin was unable to beat.
With Traralgon holding two shots, skipper Andrew Kent did not have to play his last bowl, Traralgon taking an overall three-shot win, 87/84.
For the winners Andrew Kent won 20/19 against Norm Dickson, Chris Ward won 28/15 over Neville Collie and Abe Roeder hung on to win 24/22 against Ian Smethurst after having a big lead.
Drouin’s winner was Mick Fleming, who played extremely well in beating Ross Sizeland 28/15.
This week Neerim hosts Morwell Club, Longwarry is at home against Moe, Yallourn is at home against Traralgon and Drouin hosts Trafalgar in an interesting round of matches.
In other games Morwell Club easily beat Yallourn 101/73, Moe won a close game 95/90 against Trafalgar and Longwarry won its first game, beating Neerim 97/83. After five rounds all sides have had a win and the top four stands at Traralgon, Morwell Club, Moe and Yallourn with Drouin just a few points back in fifth place.
In division two Traralgon (2) continued its unbeaten run with a big 115/69 win against Thorpdale.
Moe beat Yallourn North, which had a couple of players back for their first games this season 89/79, Warragul just pipped Garfield 110/109 and Traralgon (3) hung on to beat RSL 93/92 after the last rink dropped five on the last end.
In this division the four stood at Traralgon (2), Warragul, Moe and RSL, Garfield being just three points back in fifth.
In division three Drouin remains unbeaten after beating Boolarra 112/91, Morwell thumped Trafalgar winning 124/76, Warragul almost doubled Yinnar’s score winning 130/67 and Yallourn beat Morwell Club 99/80.
The four in this division stands at Drouin, Yallourn, Morwell Club and Warragul.
These four have opened up a gap over Morwell, in fifth place and 15 points behind.
In division four, unbeaten Yarragon thrashed Yallourn 108/60, Warragul won 98/97 over Moe, unbeaten Morwell easily accounted for Yallourn North 113/75 and RSL was too good for Traralgon, winning 96/81.
In this division unbeaten sides Yarragon and Morwell were first and second with RSL third and Moe fourth, just a couple of points ahead of Warragul and Yallourn North.
In division five Morwell Club beat Traralgon 75/67, Boolarra won 71/65 over Yallourn, Yinnar and Trafalgar Park drew 72 shots apiece and Drouin beat Neerim 74/65.
The four was Morwell Club, Boolarra, Neerim and Yallourn in this division, with Yinnar two points behind fifth.
In division six west Longwarry beat Warragul (4) 48/43, Garfield thrashed Warragul (5) 69/37 and Neerim more than doubled the Drouin (5) score, winning 55/21.
Warragul (5) led from Drouin (4), Neerim and Warragul (4) with Garfield and Longwarry only two points away.
In six east Yallourn North had sufficient players to beat Moe (5) 46/33, Trafalgar beat Moe (4) 55/41 and Morwell had a big 60/34 win against RSL.
Morwell was unbeaten and led Trafalgar, RSL and Yarragon in the next three places.
During the week the Clubs Victoria Mixed Pairs were played up to finals stage.
In the semi-finals Geoff Whitelaw and Dawn Bond of Yinnar beat Michael Yacoub and Helen Caines of Morwell Club 19/9 and Barry Mumford and Carol Eaton of Moe won 15/14 over Warragul’s Alan Nicholson and Marj Evison.
