EMERALD emergency services combined to provide a road rescue demonstration in the town’s main street during the recent Winterfest celebration.
Hundreds of people watched as police, CFA, ambulance and SES crews ‘rescued’ five people trapped in two vehicles using the Jaws of Life.
Emerald Police Sergeant Chris Vincent said the demonstration reinforced the road safety message being promoted in the area.
“The CFA and SES came up with the idea last year and invited us and the ambos,” Sgt Vincent said.
“It’s a win, win for all the emergency services and the community.
“The lower than average rainfall this winter has keep our collision rates down, but we want to remind everyone to take care on our roads.”
The 11th annual Winterfest was declared the biggest and best yet by organisers and residents.
