Brad Kingsbury
FORMER Mornington coach and champion goalkicker Simon Goosey made a successful debut for Dromana on Saturday, booting 11 goals in the Tigers’ 93point win over Pearcedale.
The Panthers stayed with their opponents in a lowscoring opening half before Dromana piled on 11 goals to two after the long break, thanks largely to Goosey’s dominance.
The Pearcedale defence was powerless to stop ‘the Goose’ who will play around 10 matches for the Tigers this year, while combining his time with a forward coaching role for the Western Bulldogs.
Langwarrin remained unbeaten after downing Rye by 18 points in the match of the day, while Somerville had to battle hard to beat a gallant Sorrento by five points in the close match of the round.
In other games Frankston had a comfortable 62point win over bottom side Red Hill and Crib Point upset Rosebud to win by 61 points.
In Peninsula League, Bonbeach continued its giantkilling run by upsetting a strong EdithvaleAspendale side.
The Sharks won the close contest by 23 points with coach and former Springvale champion Damian Carroll best afield.
Seaford suffered a sevenpoint loss to Frankston YCW despite an eightgoal haul from talented recruit Oliver Trand.
Karingal proved too good for Pines and undefeated top team Chelsea overran an undermanned Hastings side, while in a traditional Sunday clash, Mt Eliza downed neighbours Mornington by 13 points.
