Panther cubs ready to roar

DEVON Meadows’ under 13s became the club’s first junior team in more than a decade to reach the grand final, when the young Panthers defeated Cardinia by 20 runs at Glover Reserve on Sunday.
After losing the toss, Dan Martens (1/11) made an early breakthrough for the home side before Nathan Worsteling (3/16) reduced the young Bulls to 4/34.
Promising leg spinner Chris Benedek (1/14) broke a 36run fifthwicket stand, allowing Ben Hussey to tear through the Bulls’ tail to finish with 3/5 off 3.5 overs.
Sam Hurdiss also bowled well to finish with 1/5 off four overs as Cardinia was bowled out for 106 in the 37th over.
In reply, Ben Hussey (25 retired) and Kyle Salerno got the chase off to a solid start, Salerno (15) the first to fall with the score on 49.
The Panthers lost two more quick wickets before Andrew Lay (25 retired) and Anthony Northeast (24) saw their side to victory.
Devon Meadows will now face minor premiers Merinda Park in the grand final this weekend. Can you add a line to our write up congratulating Craig ‘Possum’ Hunter on the birth of Tyler Craig Hunter at 11.18am today.
