RESIDENTS flocked to get free plants during a massive native plant giveaway last week.
Sponsored by the Nestle factory in Pakenham and delivered by the Cardinia Shire Council, the native plant giveaway was a huge success.
Distribution points were in Emerald, Pakenham and Kooweerup.
More than 15,000 plants were given out to residents across the shire to make their gardens and properties more sustainable and a haven for native wildlife.
Nestle invested $22,000 into the plant giveaway through their Nestle Community Environment Program which works to improve the local environment in communities across Australia where it operates.
Friends of Mt Cannibal, Helen GenomiFharnham and Hugh Kelly helped provide technical information to the public at the Pakenham giveaway checkpoint.
Human resources manager for Nestle Pakenham David Arkell, was thankful for their support.
“Without the dedication of the Friends groups and Landcare volunteers this would have not been possible.”
