Poor quality pulls down prices

FOR the week ending Monday, 21 November, total yarding at the VLE Pakenham was 3227 plus bobby calves.
This number consisted of 1363 cattle on the Monday, 749 on the Tuesday and 1115 at Thursday’s store sale.
Solid competition for best quality vealers and supplementary fed yearlings saw prices average unchanged.
Prices were between 200 cents and 246.6 cents per kilogram for B muscle steers and heifers with reduced supply spurring the strong demand, although processors purchased better quality for money paid.
Other cattle, which made up the larger percentage of the yarding, sold to weaker demand and less feedlot competition.
The quality was only fair to reasonable, which was partly the reason behind a four to eight cents per kilogram fall in price.
