THE Beatles, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison may soon be used to drive vandals out of Pakenham.
Under a plan being considered by local council, the songs of famous ’60s rockers and pop stars would be played across the Main Street shopping strip after dark to deter people from loitering in the area.
The measure was one of several options talked about by councillors, police, traders and other community members at a vandalism forum last week.
Councillor Kate Lempriere said the talks were only preliminary, but she backed the idea.
“We discussed playing ’60stype music to keep the kids away from hanging around in town late at night,” Ms Lempriere said.
The music solution has been successfully used by other municipalities, including Frankston City Council, which used classical music to deter drug dealers from their streets.
