CARDINIA Shire Council last week approved another greyhound breeding and training facility at Thirteen Mile Road, Garfield.
Council at a town planning meeting approved an application from Robert, Shannon and Dean Larsen to breed and train a total of 24 greyhounds subject to a long list of conditions set down by authorities including Melbourne Water and the Environmental Protection Authority.
It was the second time in two months that council had approved an application to keep greyhounds in Thirteen Mile Road.
As with the previous permit, council’s approval followed decisions in favour of objectors at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
An officer’s report to council said the permit application responded to recommendations made by VCAT, and that conditions such as extra screening and new soundproofed kennels would address neighbours’ concerns about noise.
There were 23 objections to the application with howling and barking dogs, and concerns about land values chief among the issues raised by nearby landholders.
The Larsen family said in its submission to the council that it took great pride in maintaining its property.
