Camellia Lodge scoops garden award

By Jim Mynard
THE Wilson Botanic Park Garden Expo 2005 Gold Award went to Camellia Lodge Nursery at Officer.
Moon Beam Garden Lighting won the Silver Award, and the Highly Commended award went to Universal Rocks.
Expo coordinator Derek Garton said he heard nothing but praise for the high quality of the 44 displays at the expo.
Mr Garton said the main object of the expo was to introduce visitors from far and wide to the beautiful Wilson Botanic Park.
He said the park was developed from a former bluestone quarry.
“The expo was more than a plant market – it was a display of ideas for the home backyard given in a most beautiful setting around the park’s Anniversary Lake.
“While parents enjoyed the expo, school children competed in the K-mart kids competition that took them all around the quarry rim, its lookouts and its lakes to answer a series of questions.”
Mr Garton said the City of Casey supported the expo, which was run by Friends of Wilson Botanic Park.
Casey mayor Neil Lucas congratulated the organisers and said he hoped the expo would become an annual event.
