IN THE story “Lightning starts two fires” on page three of last week’s Gazette, it was reported that the lake in the story was owned by a local baker.
The lake is in fact, majority owned by Anna Baker. Mrs Baker’s family constructed the lake in 1975.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment asked Mrs Baker’s son, Andrew Clarke, for permission to use the water in the lake to help fight the fires. Mr Clarke said the department had offered to replace the water it used.
