BERWICK Secondary College (BSC) will have two projects entered in this year’s Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) Sustainable Cities Award to be judged later this year.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the City of Casey was last year awarded Victoria’s Most Sustainable City and that it hoped to build on this success.
He said two BSC projects had been selected to support the council’s 2006 entry. They were ground improvements with native vegetation and design of a notice board at the Frog Hollow Reserve, Endeavour Hills, at the invitation of the Friends of Frog Hollow.
“More than 250 native plants were planted in the school grounds through working bees and funds raised by the students and local sponsorship,” Cr Bradford said.
“The mural project involved a year 10 art class visiting Frog Hollow and capturing images to be produced on the notice board using whatever mediums they chose.
“The result is a colourful display attracting visitors to the board and information provided by the Friends Group on the reverse side.”
The mayor said the project was a partnership between the college in which the council provided a grant for materials.
