College campus opens

– Glen Atwell
IT was the first day of school for everyone at Maranatha Christian College’s new Officer campus.
Principal Andrew McKenzie said there were few tears as a class of prep students began the first day in a new chapter of life.
“Many of the parents shed more tears than the students themselves,” Mr McKenzie said.
The new campus on Rix Road had close to 100 students enrolled for the first term, but that number is expected to grow rapidly throughout the year.
“We’ve commenced with four classes – three primary and one secondary,” Mr McKenzie said.
“We’re expecting measured growth throughout the year and will soon be teaching many more classes.”
The new facilities at the campus include a library and state-of-the-art computer centre.
Mr McKenzie said the new campus would fill an education gap in the Cardinia area.
“Maranatha has a high academic standard and a strong commitment to the Christian faith.
“We’re a low-fee independent school and all our teachers are practising Christians,” he said.
With room for 1000 students, a kindergarten and auditorium would soon be developed at the eight-hectare site.
“There is plenty of room to grow and we are excited about our future here in Officer,” Mr McKenzie said.
The school’s official opening will take place on 28 February at 6pm.
