Dream day for fields

By Jim Mynard
VISITORS to the Casey Fields open day gave the facility a tick of approval.
About 500 took guided bus tours of the 70 hectare sporting and recreation complex, before enjoying handson activities and meeting representatives of sporting teams soon to be based there.
And Casey chief executive Mike Tyler was pleased with the public’s positive response.
He said the facility would become the premier sport and recreation facility in Melbourne’s south east, offering a vast range of active and passive opportunities.
“Visitors were impressed about the facility’s expansive size and sustainable design, which would make it an integral hub of local and high level sports for Casey.
Mr Tyler said the day also offered visitors the chance to take up membership and meet club representatives.
He said it would be home to premier side CaseySouth Melbourne Cricket Club, the Casey Scorpions VFL team, and many sporting and recreation clubs.
These include Cranbourne Cricket Club; Cranbourne Football and Netball Club; Devon Meadows Junior Football Club; the Bicycle Association of the South East; and the Casey Cardinia HPV and Cycling Club.
“In addition to the sporting facilities, Casey Fields will be a fantastic place for families to spend time playing games, enjoying a picnic or simply relaxing in the passive recreational area, which is complete with wetland planting and walking paths around the lake system,” Mr Tyler said.
