Garfield crowns its best

A LARGE crowd was in attendance for the Garfield Football and Netball Club’s presentation night held at the Sports and Social Rooms on Friday, 16 September.
President Judy Bishop opened proceedings with the announcement of the reappointment of Ben Soumilas as senior coach and the appointment of Danny O’Brien as his assistant.
The night began with the counting of votes for the bestandfairest in the seniors, reserves and under 18s.
Andy Soumilas was the runaway winner in the seniors with Ben Marsh runnerup.
In the reserves, Jason Bentley won the bestandfairest with equal runnersup Ryan Naylor and veteran Gary Vitiritti.
The under 18s was a close one, with Dylan Gleeson getting up by two votes over Stuart Edwards.
Gary Vitiritti was awarded a life membership after he played his 350th game this year. He started his football career at Garfield as a junior in the early 1980s.
Peter Bogart was presented with the Tim Payne Memorial Best Club Person award. This was seen as a just reward for his tireless effort around the club over several years.
