Golfers ‘wade in’ at Drouin

A LARGE field teed up for the first round of the Winter Wade Par event at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
Played on the old course, more than 100 members teed off in the twoday event with a CCR of 71.
The ladies could not be included in the event as only five turned up.
The Agrade winner was Phil Adams (handicap eight) with an excellent +6, followed by Shane Dwyer, Pat McDonald and Paul Duivenvoorden all on +4 with Shane taking second money on a countback.
Trevor Jones (handicap 19) took out Bgrade on a countback from John Nelson with +4 with Stan Weller on +3.
Laurie Pyle (handicap 21) was the winner in Cgrade also on a countback from Jimmy McCormack with +2 with Noel Brereton next with +1.
The only nearest the pin result was Freddy Gajdobranski who came within 60mm of an ace on the 23rd, but collected the propin purse.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

There were 71 starters with a CCR of 74 that meant only two sections were contested.
Charlie Hardy (handicap 15) won Agrade with 36 points with John Harris runnerup on 35 points from Kevin Johnson also on 35.
Vicepresident George Nicholson (handicap 21) amassed an excellent 39 points to take the Bgrade trophy from Wayne Duckett on 36.

THURSDAY RESULTS

This was the rerun of the annual tournament that was washed out event and conducted by club professional Anthony Bambridge and the match committee.
The club thanked them for their organisation of the event.
The winners in Agrade were Jill Brenchley and Marg Mitchum, while the Bgrade prize went to Leanne Plank and Sharon Rippon, who has obviously inherited her mother’s golfing ability.
The Thursday ninehole competition was won by Con Norris with 18 points from Bruce Horskins next on 17.
The men’s individual Stableford event was also played and the winner was Les Madden with 35 points.
Runnerup was Charlie Hardy with 34 points.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Greg Patterson and no one claimed the prize on the 19th.
Downtheline balls went to James Haywood 33 points, Colin Moss 31 and George Nicholson 30 on a countback.

MONDAY RESULTS

The ninehole event was taken out by Mick Fox with a sensational 22 points from George Nicholson on 19.

COMING EVENTS

This week is the second round of the Winter Wade Par event.
Members are also reminded of the DrouinBarrhead (Canada) challenge on the 26 August.
This is a guest day with wine, cheese and pizza during the presentations.

WIN A MEMBERSHIP

The membership competition will be drawn on 2 September.
People are advised to get a ticket to be in the running to win a club membership for $5.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the club will be held on Thursday, 7 September at 7.30 pm.
With a number of new committee positions being contested this is seen as a healthy sign for the advancement of the club during the difficult times that all golf clubs are experiencing.

LADIES

Tuesday’s warm sunshine encouraged a good field to contest a stroke event for the August Monthly Medal and final round of the Silver Spoon.
The CCR was 76 nett and in the absence of president Bernace, Elaine Howlett welcomed members and new member Judy Bennett.
The winner of Agrade and the Monthly Medal and silver spoon was Shirley Todd with 78 nett.
Runnerup in Agrade on a countback was Ethel Manley with 81 nett.
Bgrade winner was Glenda Warren with 80 nett, on a countback to runnerup Irene Jupp.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Margaret Purcell. Margaret was also on the green on the 19th, but Mary Tymensen was closest to the pin. No one claimed the propin.
Downtheline balls went to Mary Tymensen, Mary Clark and Margaret Purcell.
Nine of our lady members represented Drouin at the Country Championships held at Sorrento recently.
In divisiontwo, Glenda Warren was runnerup for the Glenelg Cup on the first day of the series.

THURSDAY RESULTS

Last Thursday, the ladies played the fourballbestball Stableford event that had been cancelled recently and Aperloo Bakery was thanked for sponsoring the event.
Agrade winners were Jill Brenchley and Margaret Mitchem with 40 points on a countback to runnersup Paula Rae and Norma McCausland (BerwickMontuna).
Bgrade winners were Leeanne Planck and Sharon Rippon with 40 points. Runnersup were Heather Reeves and Colleen Pruser (Warragul) with 38 points.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Chris Gunn (Mirboo North) and on the 19th was Leesa Matthews (Garfield).
Downtheline balls went to Margaret Purcell and Ellyn Thomson 39 points, Geraldene Sinclair and Phyl Warne (Garfield) 38 points and Norma Scott and Betsy White 37 points on a countback.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This week is the annual general meeting at 9.30am with a ninehole Stableford competition to follow.
This will be in conjunction with the newly introduced excommittee members’ trophy, sponsored by Elaine Howlett.

Next week (22 August) will be the first round Foursomes Championship sponsored by Lights Fans n’ Things and the first round Foursomes Handicap sponsored by Sheila McDowell.
