BOTH grand final teams are littered with players who can win a game or have a major hand in its outcome.
However the performances of some have ranged from very good to ordinary and it’s the form of those key players that could tell the story this weekend.
Among the keys are:
Doveton
Danny Casset
Considered by most to be the most dangerous and explosive player in the league, Casset can be distracted by close checking and must keep his head if the Doves are to win.
Ryan Hendy
Has had his best season ever, but has gone missing in highpressure finals before. If he fires so usually does Doveton.
Justin Hill
‘Jussy’ does not lack confidence, but can be an enigmatic performer. Must play four quarters of consistent football to dominate.
Ricky Hayes
Another who is as good as any running around, but at times goes missing. He will play a key defensive role and if he lapses in concentration it will cost goals.
Narre Warren
Lee Clark
Has brought his game to another level in 2005 and must remain focussed for one more week. Must not let the 100goal moment (when it comes) interrupt his concentration.
Shane Dwyer
The word ‘workhorse’ comes to mind. The days of Dwyer taking regular ‘hangers’ look to be over, but a big contribution from him in attack or onball is vital to the Magpies.
Luke Hughes
It’s time that Hughes used his embarrassingly rich talent for four quarters and blew a game to pieces. He could do it in the grand final, but someone’s got to tell him.
Michael Collins
Injury looks to be Collins’ enemy at present. He has been ‘carrying’ for most of the year and looked proppy again last week. A fit Collins is worth four goals plus to the Magpies.
