Gippsland footy writer Ken Moore had a chat with Catani forward Shane Davidson, who played an integral role in the Blues’ thirdquarter comeback.
Davidson regularly draws attention from both opponents and supporters for his inyourface approach but what cannot be disputed is his fine record in big games. On Saturday Davidson played in his fourth senior premiership and his second for Catani.
He represented Pakenham in over 100 senior appearances including its 2000 flag under Ash Green and its 2002 victory under Joe Lenders.
Ken Moore: How does it feel to win another premiership?
Shane Davidson: It’s absolutely great!
KM: How does it compare with the ones you played in at Pakenham?
SD: Being backtoback it’s so much sweeter, but honestly it is really hard to compare and I’m just on so much of a high at the moment.
KM: How did the team find the willpower to get back in the game?
SD: I don’t really know, but a lot of credit must be given to Paul Alger and his halftime speech, which was the sort of speech that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. He really revs you up and he is a great coach.
KM: You don’t mind getting involved with the verbal spats out on the field?
SD: I love it. I love it when the opposition and the crowd get into me.
KM: Tell us more about your coach.
SD: Paul Alger is absolutely the greatest man you will ever meet he is a super coach.
KM: Some of your teammates have a big ticker.
SD: They just keep at it. Look, I am lost for words but this is one of the best clubs you could ever come to everyone makes you feel so welcome.
KM: Who got you down to Catani?
SD: No one in particular. Dad played footy there for a few years and I knew Shane Fitzpatrick but I thought it was time for a change and to see a few new, fresh faces.
KM: There will be a few celebrations tonight and over the next few days?
SD: Yes, we might have a couple, we might have a couple.
