Le play aids recall

BEACONHILLS year three French students huffed and they puffed as they presented the play ‘Three Little Pigs’ using the newly introduced Gesture Method.
Junior School students, parents, staff and the headmaster were treated to the fun-filled performance.
Introduced this year, the Gesture method is part of a program based on using gestures and literature to which students perform plays, songs and dance.
Headmaster Tony Sheumack said learning a second language should be both meaningful and fun and using this method provided that opportunity.
“Because the program has been so successful, it will be introduced to years five and six across both our campuses next year.”
French teacher Laure Pradier said the new program had had a marked effect.
Ms Pradier said the repetition and familiarity combined with easily recognisable gestures seem to embed the meaning of the language.
“The students’ recall has improved dramatically,” she said.
