Marking a decade of tertiary teaching

MONASH University Berwick will celebrate 10 years of tertiary teaching at Berwick with a special afternoon on Saturday, 29 April.
Anniversary committee chairman Paul Sugden said a feature of the celebration would be a historic glass artwork to be placed in the main reception area of the campus.
Mr Sugden said former student Kristin McFarlane was commissioned to do the work.
He said committee members were busy organising a wine bottling fundraiser to pay for the artwork.
“The event will have a simplicity theme but a major part of the celebration will centre around plans for the glass panel to be placed in the campus reception area at a later date.
“Plans for the panel, which will be created by Ms McFarlane, will be on display.”
Mr Sugden said the committee was sending out 3000 invitations to people known to have been associated with the campus.
“This will be a celebration of Monash at Berwick and the history of the site.
“We have stories of our first teachers and students shooing cows away and watching them graze from class rooms.
“These things were not recorded in our old universities, which is a pity.
“We need this documented for 300 years ahead.
“The Berwick campus has a passionate university community.
“Students and staff love the place and we need to build on this sense of community.”
Mr Sugden said the staff and students would be selling bottled wine with a special anniversary label to help raise money for the dedicated glass panel.
