Neighbourhood houses boost

NEIGHBOURHOOD houses are set to benefit from new funding from the State Government.
Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Centre, LLINC (Living and Learning in Cardinia) in Pakenham and Upper Beaconsfield Community Centre are among the local facilities expected to receive a share of $27.8 million statewide over four years.
The announcement follows a major campaign, reported in the Gazette, to boost funding for the facilities that provide vital social, educational and recreational opportunities to local residents.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said the funding represented a 60 per cent, or $6.9 million, increase in recurrent funding to neighbourhood houses from this July over the previous budget — a new high in funding for neighbourhood houses.
“This is a significant investment in neighbourhood houses by the Bracks Government that will be welcomed by local neighbourhood houses and their supporters,” Ms Lobato said.
