PAKENHAM SES is opening its doors to prospective new members.
As part of national State Emergency Service Awareness Week, the unit will be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.
The unit’s depot is on Purton Road, Pakenham, next to Cardinia Shire’s works depot.
SES spokesman Stephen Monro said people interested in finding out more about the SES were most welcome.
“Often we hear of people saying ‘what can I do if I join, I’m too old’, ‘I’ve got no time’, or ‘I was thinking about joining’,” Mr Monro said.
“We’d like to suggest to those of you, to come down and visit.
“In joining you’ll be given training and everything you need to know about the SES.
“Joining may be the best thing you could do, not only for yourself, but for your local community as well.
“You’ll meet new people, make many friends and learn new skills.”
Pakenham SES attends an average of 300 incidents per year such as floods and windstorms, road rescues, searches and support and relief roles.
Longserving members Andrew Helps, Ian Richardson, Bruce Monro, Chris Rogers (20 years), Peter Fry, Corey Tibballs and Julie Fry (10 years) were honoured earlier this year for their contribution.
