Power to the people at Casey Fields

THE City of Casey will host a national humanpowered vehicle (HPV) allday challenge at Casey Fields on Sunday, 1 April next year.
Members of the national HPV organisation OzHPV will be based in and around the Clyde Hall during the weekend event.
They will conduct information and technical training sessions on HPV construction and development on Saturday afternoon, and an informal barbecue social event will be held at the Clyde Hall on Saturday evening.
Another informal barbecue for the presentation of trophies will be held at the hall on Sunday evening.
The new Casey Fields criterium track has lured this major event from Broadford, north of Melbourne.
Casey Cardinia Human Powered Vehicle and Cycling Club (CCHPVCC) president John Perrin said the club was expecting visitors to the event from Canberra, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania.
“We have also had expressions of interest from New Zealand, Queensland, Western Australia, and Hong Kong,” he said.
“This is the first of what we hope will be a growing interest for people from outside Casey to come here and stay nights for interests which are based on Casey Fields.
“Event managers anticipate that most of the interstate visitors will be wanting overnight accommodation.”
Mr Perrin said OzHPV was an Australiawide organisation with affiliation links to the International HPV Association.
He said the CCHPVCC was not officially involved in the management of the weekend, but many members would participate in the challenge on the Sunday.
“We are helping them prepare and plan for the event, and will lend them equipment to help stage the Sunday race,” he said.
