Safe driving for older people

A FREE Older Driver Safety Seminar will be held in the Casey Civic Centre, Magid Drive, Narre Warren, from 10am to 12.30pm on Friday, 2 March.
Acting manager community safety Caroline Bell said older people made an important contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of the community and that remaining mobile was a key factor of their sense of independence and wellbeing.
She said the council recognised the importance of keeping older drivers driving safely for as many years as possible.
“To do so, it is important that they keep uptodate with the latest information available,” Ms Bell said.
The seminars will discuss what happens to people as they age in terms of vision, hearing, reflexes, comprehension and medical conditions, as well as issues such as complex driving situations, legal responsibilities, insurance, choosing a safe car, using alternative transport and avoiding social isolation.
The seminar also covers council services and other helpful resources.
People attending will also have the opportunity to talk with an occupational therapist.
The seminars will be organised and funded by Roadsafe, the TAC and the RACV in partnership with the City of Casey.

Refreshments will be provided and no tests are involved.
