Safety found in high numbers

THE clowns were sent in, and there was plenty of action at the Cardinia Road Safety Expo and Pakenham Free Family Fun Day on Saturday.
Community safety education was at the top of the agenda at the event, which was organised by the churches of Pakenham, Cardinia Shire Council, CFA, Victoria Police, Vic Roads and the State Emergency Service.
The day was held at the PB Ronald Reserve, with activities including giant snakes and ladders games, stilts and walking planks.
Kids and the young at heart had the opportunity to have their faces painted and enjoy live music, a sausage sizzle, Devonshire teas, and kids’ crafts.
The event also encompassed the Cardinia Road Safety Expo, Cardinia Shire Council’s popular annual event, with demonstrations of the ‘jaws of life’ by the CFA, displays from Vic Roads and the TAC and a visit from the police helicopter.
Free child car restraint safety checks were available and kids were encouraged to bring their bikes to see how fast they could run or ride, as measured by a speed monitor.
Pakenham SES spokesman Steve Monro said it was a wonderful day that attracted hundreds of people, who enjoyed free food, free fun and free activities.
“The Pakenham Road Rescue Unit also displayed their skills and cut up two vehicles, explaining to the public what happens at a rescue,” he said.
“It was a huge success and it is something that the community can look forward to again next year.”
Cardinia Shire councillor Leonora Cox praised organisers on a fantastic, funfilled day.
