GARFIELD’S Iona Hotel has been stitched up and so has Emerald Lake Park.
And they’re not the only ones under the needle.
Icons from around the district have all been lovingly recreated in the magnificent Cardinia Embroidery project.
Stitchers and designers from Gembrook to Lang Lang have spent the past 15 months working on the large community textile artwork.
Work has continued at The Chapel in Pakenham this week, with project coordinator Eleanor Taylor happy with the way it is progressing.
“It’s coming together well,” Mrs Taylor said.
Hundreds of people from all over the shire have been involved in developing the landmark project.
Everybody from young children to mothers, local community committees and grandfathers have all made contributions.
Embroiderers’ work will be displayed for a special public viewing this Saturday and Sunday.
The Chapel, on the corner of Main Street and McGregor Road, Pakenham, will be open from 10am4pm each day.
The Cardinia Embroidery is a community project initiated by the Cardinia Shire Council and funded by VicHealth.
“The two main aims of the project are to bring people together from all over the shire to share their skills and work together,” Mrs Taylor said.
“The unique work of art reflects the character of the shire in 2005 and provides a oneofakind tourist feature of significant heritage value.”
