A night to celebrate

DISABILITY was no barrier to having fun last week at Cardinia’s International Day of People with a Disability evening.
About 150 people with disabilities, their carers, friends, family, local scouting groups and volunteers gathered at Pakenham Senior Citizens Hall for the annual event.
The evening began with Cardinia’s annual awards ceremony recognising the work and education achievements of people with disabilities, and the contribution of organisations that support them.
This was followed by a series of short comedy plays and musical performances by people with disabilities and members of the Seniors Citizen Centre, plus an exhibition of their art and craft work.
Guests enjoyed an informal barbecue while watching — and joining in — a cricket match with Cardinia’s successful ‘No Boundaries’ cricket team.
Cardinia Shire community services manager Joe Spiteri thanked the many organisations and individuals that made the night such a success.
“It was a wonderful chance to celebrate and recognise the contribution people with disabilities make to society.”
Cardinia International Day of People with a Disability was proudly supported by several local businesses and organisations.
