Adams leads way for Seagulls

TOORADIN’S Brenton Adams batted 50 overs to top-score for the Seagulls with 67 in A grade at the weekend.

A GRADE

Tooradin won the toss against Pakenham and elected to bat.
Mick Ash (25) and David Freeman (20) put on 45 for the opening stand.
Skipper Trevor Johnston (39), Aaron Avery (18) and Jaymes Leahy (19) all made valuable contributions throughout the innings but the pick of the batsmen was Brenton Adams, whose 67 was the backbone of the Seagulls’ innings, displaying great patience and maturity in his long stay.
Tooradin was dismissed in the 77th over for 202.

B GRADE

Tooradin hosted Cranbourne Meadows and was sent in, slumping to 3/15 after 15 overs.
Then useful partnerships centred around Andrew Gray, who with Jarrod Thompson put on 45 for the fourth wicket and with promising junior Sean Wilson added 82 before Gray was run out for an excellent 77.
Wilson was also run out for 58, his best score in senior cricket.
Nathan Findlay batted well to remain on 23 not out as Tooradin recovered to end up with the competitive score of 9/206 from 70 overs.

E GRADE

Against Pakenham Upper-Toomuc, Tooradin won the toss but was soon in trouble at 2/16.
The ship was then steadied by Andrew Sparkes (28) and veteran Mick Moon (26).
This pair produced a fine 51-run partnership but then the Seagulls lost quick wickets to stumble to 7/99 at tea.
Sean Baker (20) and Chris Brennan (45) then turned the game back Tooradin’s way with a fine 66-run partnership.
Skipper Rob Eakins made a valuable 17 and Darren Mantel a sensible 10 not out. The Seagulls were all out for 104.

UNDER 16

Tooradin defeated Lang Lang by 53 runs on the first innings.
Chasing Tooradin’s 9/134, Lang Lang was dismissed for 83.
Tooradin’s opening bowlers got early breakthroughs and had Lang Lang 2/5 after 10 overs.
Two excellent run outs by captain Sean Baker kept and when Sean Wilson came back into the attack he clean bowled two batsmen and finished the game with 3/3 from eight overs.
Ben Tobin took the last Lang Lang wicket.
Batting a second time, Tooradin was 6/45 and Michael Ralph (19) and Daniel Wallis (15) had useful practice.

UNDER 14

On day two against Cardinia, Tooradin took the field to defend its 126 with only nine players.
Without two fieldsmen available, it was possibly the Seagulls’s best performance with the ball as they dismissed Cardinia with the last ball for 92.

UNDER 12

The match against Clyde Cougars, due to bad weather the previous week, was reduced to a one dayer.
Tooradin sent Clyde in and at the end of 20 overs Clyde finished 1/61. The sole wicket-taker was Peter Dutton (1/6).
The Tooradin batsmen played great shots and showed good running between the wickets to come out on top, finishing 0/78 off 20 overs.
