ENTERTAINERRolf Harris has called on Casey residents to be good sports when it comes to recycling their Christmas cards for Planet Ark.
Mr Harris said Christmas cards gave people joy and it was great to know they could be recycled so easily through Cards 4 Planet Ark.
“This campaign runs until the end of January and we need everyone’s help to recycle tens of millions of greeting cards and envelopes,” he said.
Casey manager of engineering and environmental services David Richardson said that as part of the popular recycling push, Australia Post was giving away one million Cards 4 Planet Ark recycling envelopes.
“All you have to do is drop into your a participating Australia Post outlet and ask for a free recycling envelope.
“The envelope is postagepaid so it’s very easy to get involved,” said Mr Richardson.
“You put your greeting cards inside the envelope and post them free for recycling.
“People can also drop their greeting cards and envelopes into the specially marked Planet Ark recycling bins at any Coles supermarket.
“Since the campaign’s inception in 1994, millions of Australians have participated, helping to recycle over half a billion greeting cards and envelopes — saving more than 100,000 trees in the process.
“Planet Ark will accept every type of greeting card and envelope and they will be recycled into the ‘SAFE’ brand of toilet tissue or cardboard packaging,” he said.
