PAKENHAM Secondary College had its second fire in a week when decking was lit at the weekend.
Last Monday week the school had a scare when a wood dust extractor underneath the woodwork building malfunctioned and caught fire, causing smoke to engulf part of the school grounds.
Pakenham police said staff at the school had shown up on Monday morning to find decking in front of one of the doorways blackened and firedamaged.
The incident happened some time between 10pm on Friday and 6.30am on Monday, causing about $2000 damage to the decking.
Police said luckily the fire had been contained to the decking and had not caused any damage to the building.
Detective Sergeant Phil Jury, from Pakenham CIU, said if anyone had seen anyone hanging around the school on the weekend to contact police.
“People should always contact the police if they see anyone hanging around the school,” Det Sgt Jury said.
“We do tend to get a bit of trouble with criminal damage and things at the schools.”
Anyone with information should contact Pakenham CIU on 5941 1033 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
