Fitness fit out …in a fashion

STAR Makeover winner Colleen Tancredi of Narre Warren was a little tentative launching into the first chapter of her new look this week.
At first Colleen was slightly nervous at the thought of fitting into aerobic clothes.
When she walked through the door of Hallam active wear factory Nikki J, she was confronted with a row of skinny models sporting skintight leggings and singlets.
“I think I can rule out the tiny bike shorts and crop tops,” she laughed.
Browsing the catalogue she had been excited about the colourful outfits but when she hit the change rooms it was a different story.
She first tried on a layered red combo but opted for a more slimming black outfit with white trimmings.
“It’s a bit snug but I’m hoping it will fit me better when I’ve lost some weight,” she said.
In the meantime Colleen has started her tight schedule with personal trainer and nutritionist Amanda Dean from Fitfa Life.
Colleen will train twice a week and exercise every other day.
She has to keep a diary of everything she eats and has a set menu for three days a week and must count calories for the other days.
Colleen said she was looking forward to using the clothes in the gym.
“When I’m looking good I think they would look really good on,” she said.
She said perhaps after the 12 weeks when she did not need to hide the bulges she might choose something a bit brighter.
But she said she had been impressed by the range of clothes available.
“They were really bright and out there and lovely quality,” Colleen said.
“They felt snug and firm on so they’d be really good for exercise.”
Nikki J is owned and run by husband and wife Jackie and Kevin Hughes.
The factory supplies women’s active wear to clothing stores, dance studios and fitness centres around Victoria.
It has only been operating for a few months.
“The whole family is sporty,” Jackie said. “When you’re looking for active wear it’s often really boring.
“We wanted to make something nice and comfortable and colourful.”
Nikki J is located at Factory 3/101 Wedgewood Road, Hallam. Phone: 8786 3311.
